When this turned up on my desk I'll admit I was at first just a little mystified. Four solid cubes of perky shimmer stacked in individual baby boxes housed in one big mummy box.. what/why/where and how? Two minutes of playing later I was nothing short of giddy. This stuff is l-o-v-e-l-y and a lot of fun.

Meet The Body Shop's Poppy Shimmer Cubes - the vibrant cousin of the original Shimmer Cube Palettes (also gorgeous - Spring Bronze which includes smokey copper and burnt gold shades has my name All Over It). The set up is both novel and totally practical. Being individually packed, the cubes can be mixed and matched to create different palettes. They're perfect for travel - chuck one or two shades into your pared down holiday stash and you're good to go. Formula-wise, you can apply 'em dry for a subtle wash of iridescence or wet for a bold streak of colour. The cubes are just buttery and crumbly enough to deliver great colour pay off without heaps of fall out and this stuff is both crease resistant and long wearing. Tick, tick, tick.

If the original shadow cubes are the reliable, staple boyfriend-style shadows in your makeup stash, the Poppy version are your vibrant summer fling - perfect for jazzing up a simple festival get up (a £2 eBay top and Primark shorts, FYI). I blended out the green (dry) with a simple wing liner and some dots, and switched out my regular higlighter for the silver to give my base an edge. I also dabbed a little of the silver on top of my go-to nude lipstick to play up my pout.

I'm properly taken with the concept, formula and shade set up with this range. I sense a collection forming in the near future..
